Who are we and how was Student Junction born?
Student Junction is the brainchild of Joey Russ who came up with the idea of a new website for students over two years ago. It was a simple yet powerful idea and the start of an amazing journey! Joey decided to get a business partner to make the dream a reality- This person was Matt Malone a fellow web designer- together they have created the Student Junction website. Joey is now the CBDO which means he is in charge of marketing, advertising and covers all things business related! Matt Is the CIO of the site and is in charge of the technical side of the site as in how it looks, what it does, making sure it works properly, making sure the server doesn’t explode, that sort of thing.
What is next?
Well visit the Student Junction website- www.student-junction.com and pop your email in the box and we will keep you updated and send you a launch alert! Like us on Facebook and follow us on twitter to keep up to date with the latest from Student Junction- So the new age of social networking has nearly arrived launching JUNE 4TH 2012.
The Student Junction team
So today is the first in a series of blog posts I’ll be doing called “Feature Spotlight”. I’ll take a look at one of the many features we’ve added, tell you a bit about it, what it does, and how you can use it.

Todays feature of choice is the new “My Ads” option. I’ve chosen this one because it’s a new feature that should cause interest due to the fact that you can earn money from your profile. We won’t take a penny. Our idea is the fact that it’s your profile, so your own personal page, so if you want to put ads on it you can, and if you do then you get to take all the money from it. If you don’t want them on there, so be it, just take them off. We will never force you to have anything on your profile except the things that are necessary (such as information of course).
How to Add the Module:
So, if you feel like monetising your profile, hover over the “Profile” dropdown, and press “Customize my Page”. You’ll need a google adsense account, see http://google.com/adsense (18+ I’m afraid).
Then, in any of the avaliable spaces, press “Add Application” and then “My Ads”. It will then give you a pretty daunting looking setup page. Don’t worry, I’ll talk you through the important parts.

Adsense Publisher ID: Once you make an Adsense account, they’ll email you this ID. This is the important part as it means you get the money! If you left this as the default, the money would go somewhere else.
Channel ID: This is if you set up a “Custom Channel” in Adsense. If you don’t know what this is, don’t worry about it.
Ad Type: This is if you want image or text based ads. Personally I’d recommend Image Only, they look much more aesthetically pleasing.
Ad Layout: This is the size of ad you want to use. I’ve found that for the profile sidebars, 200x200 Small Square is the optimum size. If you’re looking to display an ad under your wall items, choose “Leaderboard”.
Style: Background colour and everything are fairly self explanatory. They’re in fex format so check out http://colorpicker.com if you need help.
Conclusion:
I think that’s about it. There’s the total guide of adding ads to your page to make yourself some money from doing absolutely nothing. The end result looks something like this:

Hello. Good Evening. Please, take a seat, make yourself at home. Now, The first thing I want you to do is copy the link in your address bar, and post it on that Facebook account you have. You do have one, right? Well, who doesn’t? Don’t answer that. There. Now all your friends can see we aren’t copying Facebook and I can get past that all and explain why.
Facebook is big. Scrap that, its actually massive! We are two people. We aren’t arrogant or stupid enough to think that we could make a site and magically take down facebook. That would be silly. So, if you would, please stop saying that we’re copying facebook because we aren’t. End of. Glad we got that sorted.
Now, as for what we ARE doing. That’s a different matter entirely!
Student Junction is not the next Facebook. It’s made for students and students only, and even links with facebook so they can use it with it! We see facebook as our big brother and want them not to lose out from using our site. That’s why you can even import and export everything to facebook if you really want. It’s entirely your choice!
What our site does do though, is help you work while you are using facebook. Say you want to research stuff of some kind, talk to your friends, and update facebook. Oh, and look how to bake a cake. Not THAT unrealistic right? With Student Junction you’ll be able to do all these things and more, on one site, with a few clicks, and no hassle! That is what we’re here to do.
Your student life simplified to a few clicks, for those times you’re in a hurry and got really fed up of the colour blue!
So, if you havent already, go put in your email at http://student-junction.com and get early access when we launch. It’s all there just waiting for ya!
Hello Avid Students!
The Development Plan has changed! (Significantly!). Rather than launching March 2013, we’re going to go public to you all in the summer, whilst the site is still in beta!
This means you get access to the good stuff sooner, and we’ll be constantly adding new features while you try it to make it even more awesome! Sound good? Send your thanks by following us @TheJunctionUK, liking us on facebook at http://on.fb.me/FRLKjm, or signing up for early access at http://student-junction.com if you haven’t already. It’s gonna be awesome!
Until next time,
Matt
We now have the domains http://student-junction.com, http://student-junction.co.uk, and http://student-junction.co.
Now, if you click on them you should notice you go to a pretty page with our logo, some writing, and a box to fill in your email address so you can get early access to the beta and other awesome stuff! It also means you can refer people for us and make us love you even more!
So, if you want to be part of the beta go to one of the addresses above, fill in the box, and press the button! That way, as soon as we have news, we’ll tell you!
Also, you should tell all your friends so when you join the beta, you won’t be lonely. It is a social network after all!
If you look to the right, you will see a brief summary of what it is we’re doing. Or if you’re one of our beta testers, then you know anyway.
Anywho, in 6 days time on approx. the 13th (Maybe 14th depending on how we get on) we will be announcing what it is we’re doing and how you can take part in testing it, improving it, and making it more awesome! Only one rule, you gotta have a uni or educational email address (Yano, security and everything has to be the number one priority). If you wanna be a part of testing (and finding out what we’re actually doing), follow this blog! And tell your friends to too!
We're making a new social network that's only for students. It has everything they need, and even things they don't! Want more info? Then look to your left...
